Today we went to the Battle of Little Bighorn National Monument. We listened to the Ranger Talk at the park who told us all about the Battle. We then explored the grounds of the park seeing both the solider memorial and the Indian Warrior memorial. We also did the 5 mile driving loop that took you all along the Battlefield.
"Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument memorializes a major battle fought on June 25th 1876, between Lakota, Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians, against the United States Army. These tribes were fighting to preserve their traditional way of life as nomadic buffalo hunters. The U.S. Army was carrying out the Grant Administration's instruction to remove the Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne peoples to the great Sioux Reservation in Dakota Territory."
Waiting to listen to the Ranger Talk
"The Park Service places the first red granite marker on the battlefield on Memorial Day in 1999. Today, the 7th Cavalry(white markers) and Warrior (red) Markers serve as poignant reminders of the fateful battle fought on June 25-26, 1876. These red granite markers add to the important legacy of this hallowed ground and are a striking and powerful addition to the cultural landscape of Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument."
"The Indian Memorial, dedicated in 2003 and completed in 2013, stands 75 yards northeast of the 7th Cavalry monument, a circular earthwork carved gently into the prairie. The surrounding inside walls display the names of thoe who fought here as well as the words of some who fought in the battle. "
We left there and drove to Dickinson, North Dakota.
Wildfire off in the distance
Ewww...we caught a grasshopper!
Home, home on the range, where the deer and the antelope play....
When we arrived in Dickinson, we checked into our motel and then headed to the laundromat to do some laundry...we got it all done and repacked all our bags so we are ready for tomorrow's adventures!
