Job Interview

The job process for me has been rather frustrating.  I don't interview well, but have gotten better with each interview.  I had what I thought was a great interview in June at a school that I really wanted to work at, but I did not get the job.  Just before we left for Delaware, I set up a phone interview for a job, but when I had the interview, I knew it didn't go well.  Phone interviews are weird, you have no way to know how the people who are interviewing you are feeling.

We cut our road trip short so I could be back in time to interview at Dayton Grade School.  I had an interview at 3:15.  The principal got me from the office and walked me back to the Math Lab.  The interview panel consisted of the principal and three other teachers.  They began asking me questions.  I answered them and we were having great conversation.  It felt more that talking with a bunch of friends than an interview.  I applied for a Kindergarten position at the school and was answering all the questions based on that position.  Towards the end of the interview they asked me why I had not applied for their other position.  When I looked on their website while applying for jobs, I saw that they had the Kinder position and I saw that they had a position that would be either 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade.  I was honest with them and said that I was not interested in 5th grade.  All the times I subbed in 5th grade I did not enjoy it.  They told me that when they posited the position, they did not know what they would need.  They said they knew now that it was a 3rd and 4th grade blend classroom.  I said, "Well, that would be fine."  Before I knew it, they were all saying "Done".  I was sitting there wondering what was going on.  The principal said, "You're hired."  I got hired on the spot!  (Pending my references checked out.)  I couldn't believe it.  They went and showed me my room.

This was my room when I first saw it.

When I got home, this was on our dining room table.  Lauren made this for me with her Lego's.
